Privacy

What Countertalk keeps, and what it does not.

Written October 2026. Short, because there is not much to say. Last updated October 17, 2026: the Advertising section below.

Text you check

Text you paste into the checker, and the words of a page fetched by its address, are read in memory to build your report and are not stored. They are gone when the report has been sent to your browser.

Copy Notebooks

If you press “Start a Notebook” or save a version, that text, the page name and label you typed, the address it came from and its scores are stored in our database so the Notebook can show them. A Notebook has no account and no email: its 16-character link is the only key, and we keep only a one-way hash of it, so we cannot look it up or send it to you. Anyone with the link can open it. You can delete a version or the whole Notebook at any time; a Notebook nobody opens for 365 days is deleted automatically. Nightly database backups are kept for 14 days.

Addresses and cookies

To stop abuse, we count requests per day using a salted one-way hash of your internet address; those counters are deleted after two days. Pages with a form set one security cookie (it stops other sites from submitting forms as you); the home page sets none. There is no analytics service and no tracking cookie, and the fonts come from this site. The only outside service the pages load is the adengine.us banner described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total. Reports and Copy Notebooks load nothing from other sites.

Fetching a page

When you check by address, our server makes one request to that page, saying in its user agent that it is Countertalk, and reads only the words. It does not run the page’s scripts or follow its links.

Email and payments

Countertalk sends no email. Payments are not open yet; when they are, PayPal will handle them and we will not see card details.

Advertising

The home page, How it reads, Pricing and the check form (before you send anything) each show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. Reports, Copy Notebooks, this page, the terms and error pages show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It never receives the address of the page you are on, and it never sees the text you check.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your internet address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.

Who runs it, and questions

Countertalk is run by WeldonPC (weldonpc.com). Questions about this page or your Notebook: contact WeldonPC. Do not send your private Notebook link: anyone holding it can open the Notebook. (Added October 31, 2026.)
